Ulteo Virtual Desktop Released: Run Linux on Windows

Yesterday, Ulteo released it’s new virtual desktop product that let’s you run your Linux applications on a Windows XP or Vista computer. It is available for download at http://www.ulteo.com/home/en/virtualdesktop.

This isn’t your typical virtualization. Ulteo uses the coLinux kernel patch to give incredible performance, though it’s still not as fast as a native installation. The beefy system requirements should clue you in: a recommended dual core processor with 1gb of memory. You’ll also need a hefty 4gb of free space for the install.

On the plus side, all of your favorite applications are supported, including Firefox with Flash and Java, OpenOffice, Skype, inkscape, and the GIMP. To make things even better, you also have access to your “My Documents” folder.
