Acer throws in with Linux

Vnunet reports that Acer will be pushing Linux aggressively, not only on it’s ultra portables, but on its laptops as well.

It appears they’re betting that a 15 second boot time, and an extended battery life (from 5 hours on windows vs 7 hours on Linux) will persuade customers to make the switch. The lower purchase price is just icing on the cake.

Linux Servers up 8.4 percent

According to vnunet. Sales are up 3.5% higher in Q1 2008 than in Q1 2007.

Linux just keeps on growing.

Linux Sales in China Grow 22%

According to vnunet despite a 22.6% growth in market share, revenue was a paltry $5.42m in Q1 of 2008.

Unfortunately, with easy access to pirate copies of windows available in China a good number of Linux installations will likely be replaced.
