Novice users perfer Linux … In Taiwan

In an odd twist, ZD Net is reporting that, in Taiwan, Linux is selling better among novice computer users than experienced users (who apparently perfer XP).  The article suggests that price is a major factor.

How this news went unnoticed for so long is unknown.  But it’s true.  You can now buy Ubuntu Linux at your local Best Buy or via their online store.

Xandros secretly acquires Linspire

After a very slow news month, Kevin Carmony reports that Xandros has acquired Linspire in a secret backroom deal.   No shareholders meeting was held.

PC World Missed the Nokia/Linux News

PC World is reporting that Linux may be used on new Nokia Phones. The apparently missed the announcement Nokia made days earlier in response to articles like the one above.

Sorry, PC World, Nokia isn’t planning any Linux handsets.

Ultraportable Ubuntu TBA in early June

In a Guardian Interview published today Mark Shuttleworth mentions that “Netbook Remix” — an ultraportable optimized Ubuntu release — will be announced in the first week of June.
